Measuring 120 cm, or approximately 47.2 inches, this imposing mosasaur skull is identified as Prognathodon sp. Reported from the Sidi Chennane phosphate deposits of Morocco, the skull has been extracted from its original geological matrix and prepared as a commanding three-dimensional fossil display.
Prognathodon belonged to the mosasaurs, a successful group of predatory marine reptiles that inhabited Late Cretaceous seas. Mosasaurs were not dinosaurs; they were aquatic squamate reptiles equipped with powerful jaws and teeth adapted to marine feeding.
